Fishing Lodges In Alaska – So Many, Which One To Choose ?
After you land in Alaska, take a look around. Unless, you are looking at the seascape which in itself needs to be admired, you will see quite a bit of the Alaskan land is occupied by Fishing Lodges. It is these Fishing Lodges which give Alaska tourism its revenue. Apart from the fishes, of course.
I have been to Alaska about three times till now. Each of them were annual visits. And very wisely, I chose to stay in one of the fishing lodges every time. Just to ensure that I could know and get a feel of what different fishing lodges could offer me, I stayed at different fishing lodges. And believe me, the experience and service that I got from all four of them during the three 7-day trips was just amazing.
Not accusing myself of generating publicity for these 4 lodges, I can take names conveniently :
· Wilderness Palace Lodge - Established in 1985, this lodge offered me my first taste of staying in a Fishing Lodge in Alaska. As I was new to Alaska, the first time around, I did a lot of fly-fishing with them. My whole stay was spiced up with couple of outings (not fishing trips) on Alaskan waters and one day of wildlife viewing. Remaining of the time was spent by me relaxing in my deluxe room enjoying the lodge's amenities.
· Waterfall Resort - My second stint with Alaska was made extremely pleasurable by Waterfall Resort. Encouraged by the Salmon fishing facilities that they provided, I went on two salmon fishing trips which they had organized for me. The guide who came with me was just about perfect and together we netted a haul of about 50 pounds worth of fish in two days. Not bad.
· Fireweed Lodge - If there was anything missing from my Alaskan dictionary, that was Halibut and Lingcod fishing. I could achieve both of this in my next stay with Fireweed Lodge. I still remember the Herculean effort that me and my guide put in to get the Halibut on board. Needless to say, our guide turned out to be a super-hero who knew everything from laying the bait, tackling and loading.

When you land in Alaska, you may choose your fishing lodge. The three names which I have mentioned above are purely from my own experience. Believe me, the service they provided me along with the fishing trips and the amenities, made me believe for a moment that Alaska is not all about fishes. And going by the feedback that I have got from my colleagues who have been to Alaska, most of these lodges are equally good.
Well, let me make things a bit difficult for you. Land in Alaska and make your choice. More often that not, the choice will be made on what your heart says….
