Alaska Fishing Tours – Tours With A Difference

Alaska Fishing Tours

Finally, after checking out claims of different tours being different from each other, I finally found a tour which had a difference. Here was a tour that I glanced upon which offered me an opportunity to experience Alaskan seascape from very close quarters. I was also offered a chance to catch some salmons and cook it. The whole package deal was so lucrative, I could not resist it and went for Alaska Ceebergale Tour - One of many Alaska Fishing Tours.

Alaska is a melting pot of its wonderful sea scenery (its proximity to Arctic not withstanding), the variety of fishes (Salmons, Halibuts, Trouts, Lingcods) and the fisheries. And to explore this melting pot deeply, I embarked on my Ceebergale fishing tour. But what did fish tour mean? I did not ask this question to my guide as I wanted to find the answer myself. Little did I know that my $200, 3 - day fish tour would allow me to invest on four such fishing tours in a span of a month?

As our boat sailed along the green waters of the Kenai river, my guide pointed me to look below. I was busy admiring the snow clad mountains on a clear, blue day (Thank god, it was May). And when I looked down in the water, I found a giant of a fish lurking pretty close to the boat. Startled, when I asked my guide as to what it was, he quipped, "King Salmon". Blissfully unaware of what King Salmons are, I kept quiet then, when my guide asked me "Do you want to catch it?" Honestly, I took this tour just to see Alaska. Little did I know that my guide will ask me if I wished to catch some fish? And in no time, he handed me over his husky, black rod and gave me a crash course on catching Salmons. Being the fisherman that I was, I listened to him with great interest and with my guide promising me that he will show me the next King Salmon in no time, I did something then which I could have done best at that time, watch down the green water for some Salmons. Lo and behold! Within the next five minutes, another Salmon appeared close to us. Quickly the guide said "It is the same guy. Catch him this time". I threw the bait and was hoping for the best. But the line tied to the husky rod never moved an inch. Bad luck this time around. My guide was smiling all the while. He knew why he was smiling which he would tell me later. Somewhere in the closing stages of the tour, I did manage to net one Silver Salmon which was no comparison with the King nevertheless a good catch.

When we parted, my guide told me that I could find schools of Salmons at the Kenai. Obviously, he was tipping that I need not be disappointed as I had another two days to prove my worth. And indeed, for the next two days, I could not believe that I lapped up one King Salmon and five Silver Salmons.

What a tour! What a fishing trip! Tours like these give you fun and a good test of your skills. To top it up, when you go home, you get to cook the fish which you caught with your hard work and skills.
